TIM BENITEZ
HELLO I'M TIM
I LOVE CREATING GAMES
Vicious
For this assignment, I was givin ideas for some characters to build off of and to create some level areas for the player. This game is supposed to be an action game.
I'm naming the game this way because that is the name of the character. She is a vicious fighter her anihalates her foes. The presentation of the word will be necessary to aid in the browsing of game boxes. Let's say that people see the side of the box that says vicious on it and think they are looking at a horror game or something just downright brutal. That will catch their eye. This is a game for the action gamer that ones blood splattered all over the place. This game is for them. Vicious being the title will be a perfect way to draw them in.
Female Warrior: Vissius
A hunter, Jorgen, was out doing what he does best. He found young girl, about 12 or 13, hunched over a bleeding wolf. She was wearing rags to cover her nakedness. Mud caked over her body, her shining blond her a mess, and the blood of the dying wolf that lay before her covered the rest of her body. Jorgen noticed a flint knife in her hands. Jorgen could tell just by the sight of her that this girl had been wandering in the forest for quiet some time. He tried to speak to her but she didn't answer. If she knew how to speak she didn't know now.
Jorgen enticed the little girl to come with him to his cottage. He offered food and a bath. Miraculously she accepted and went with him silently. Well, at least she understood his language.
From that point on, Jorgen took her on hunts. She would viciously attack animals, not giving them a chance to escape or even fight back. Jorgen was taken aback by her viciousness. She never gave him his name, so he called her Vissius. A beautiful way to say vicious, according to Jorgen. But Jorgen also knew he had a prodogy on his hands. A warrior that could potentially be unstoppable. He trained the girl in various weapons' skills. He taught her how to fight more intelligently and elegantly.
Now she is the unstoppable warrior which Jorgen had foreseen. Vissius wanders the land to find a challenge greater than she. To her sadness, none can stand up to her. One day she hears that there is a powerful warrior who has the power to control all. A menace to all existance and a very powerful warrior. Vissius begins her hunt for this famous warrior.
While the name has been explained, the rest has not. I wanted to create a character that fit the description for this character. Someone quite vicious would need to have the will to be. A bulky warrior will train and look forward to a fight. I tried to exclude any compassion from this character so I included the bloody wolf at the beginning. Trying to show that Vissius has been a ferocious combatant from the beginning. As if she was born that way. However, starting her story in the forest at age 12 or 13 will give the player a sense of curiosity. Wondering, why was she in the forest, why did she go with Jorgen? Was she just merely surviving, or is there more to her history? Why does she have to survive? I think creating a bit of mystery for a video game makes the story more interactive for the player. Gives them a desire to imagine her back story even further.
The motive for Vissius was my way of staying away from the standard 'village has been attacked' scenario. We see these all too often. Perhaps we see people rising to a challenge for glory all often too. But I also want to make it that she is eagerly looking for the challenge. She will accept anything. Some heroes who just accept challenges will only accept them if it is worth their time. Not for Vissius. You tell her where a challenge is and she goes for it.
Villain: Malumdat
As a former knight of the king's elite, Malumdat had gone on many expeditions with his majesty. On one of the expeditions, the elite guard tarried in a small village in the mountains. While walking around he was invited into the hut of an old man. The old man said he saw great power in the knight. The old man taught him a short powerful spell to make a fireball. One of the most basic elemental powers. Malumdat found that he was able to do it effortlessly. He didn't know how he was able to do it, but he liked it.
With this new found power, he used it during the remainder of the expedition. He was able to destroy countless foes with one fireball. The other knights began to fear, and so did the king. Upon the return home the king was about to banish Malumdat from the kingdom, but Malumdat saw the power which he had discovered within himself. Malumdat destroyed the king and his royal guard.
Now claiming the castle as his own, he remained within, studying more magical spells. The king's subjects tried to attack Malumdat, but Malumdat grew too powerful. He then grew so powerful that gained the power to control the will of the former king's subjects. Malumdat remained in isolation as he learned more and more magical power to become as powerful as the gods. Now he had an army for himself to control. He desired to control more territory and demonstrate his power to all that he sees.
I tried to think of a name using the word 'bad' in another language. I am somewhat still fluent in Portuguese so I was thinking about calling the villain Malidad which would be a variation of the word Maldade. That is the word for evil or badness in Portuguese. But I began to think how funny it would be to them if the game were localized in the Portuguese language. Being a Latin based language I searched for the word evil in Latin, which is Malum. So I took that and added dat for a little extra kick and to make it sound more like a name than just a word.
I don't know if his back story is quite so interesting. I was thinking about him being a young man that got his mother killed who was a great and powerful woman. Knowing of the greatness he may have inherited he would seek revenge on the world. But that just sounds like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. So I just used the story of a knight that had discovered his supreme magical power and it all went to his head. As I approached the end and came up with a simple motivation to consume the world, I realized that the heroin and the villain roughly have the same motivation. They both want to show the world how strong they are. The clash of like minded people seems interesting. It's the total opposition type of conflict. The opposition in all things.
Forest: The Lunar Woods
The Lunar Woods is land surrounded by thick brush and forests. The people therein are a peaceful folk. There are trolls and ogres who live inside, but these creatures only come out at night. To protect the people from such monsters, the moon's light conceals the villages inside the forest. However, for the nights that the moon doesn't shine, the villages are exposed. On these nights the towns folk do what they can to defend themselves against the ogres and trolls. Many die, homes are destroyed, it isn't a pleasant time.
Vissius hears about this place and goes over to fight the monsters. You know, for a challenge She hears that there are ogres and trolls in abundance and this excites her greatly.
This is the start of the adventure. I wanted to make a forest that was mysterious and enchanted. The lost woods came to mind, but that name has been used somewhere... I also want one of the villagers to tell Vissius about Malumdat. So this isn't just a place with a challenge for Vissius to rise up to, it's also the start of her true adventure.
Mountain: Hades Peak
This mountain is known as Hades Peak. This mountain and all the mountains around if feel like Hell on earth. All of the most gruesome creatures live on it and attack those that venture there on. Those who have traveled through it and lived have been named the strongest.
Vissius has to travel through this mountain range to capture a dragon. A challenge greater than just journeying through Hades peak. The land that Malumdat inhabits is far away and Vissius desires to ride a dragon to get there. She also knows about the strength of dragons and knows that having one will be a great asset and wonderful companion.
City: Platein
Platein is the city of the most sophistocated scholars around, and also the home of the powerful Malumdat. The land is flat like a plate and the buildings tall. Once the kingdom of the great king Geshiron, it boasted of beautiful art and knowledge. Malumdat took control of the city and continued the consumption of knowledge and power. He keeps the city looking beautiful to conceal his dark ambitions.
There isn't much regarding the reason why Vissius travels here. Her foe resides in the city. Where else would she go if she wanted to fight Malumdat?
