Power Rangers MegaForce Concept
This was a game that needed to be made from a movie or TV franchise
-
Three Pillars
-
Fast Paced Brawler Combat – The game will have an exciting combat system where players fight enemies in various areas such as the streets, in the jungle, and in the desert.
-
Team Work – Players will be rewarded for working as a team to defeat enemies. Players will perform a variety of combat moves with other players to defeat their enemies.
-
Various gameplay Modes in each level – There will be more than one mode of gameplay in each level where the controls are different and the tactics for winning are different. The players will really need to be adaptable to changes that will come.

Vision
The Power Rangers has been a popular franchise for a couple decades in the United States. Many variations and stories have come throughout the years about these super human heroes of justice. This particular season is one of the newest versions of the Power Rangers. The plot is simple. Five teenage men and women are recruited by Gosei, a superior being, to defend earth from evil invading forces. In each episode, the five teenagers are able to transform into the powerful Power Rangers and fight the invaders with martial arts and giant robots. The giant robots can be combined together to make an even more powerful robot called the Megazord.
The Game will consist of up to five players fighting through waves of enemies similar to a classic arcade beat'em up games. Each level will have a powerful boss to defeat at the end. The players will fight these bosses twice: one as normal Power Rangers and a fight where the Power Rangers control the giant robot, the Megazord, to fight a giant version of the boss. The players will need to work together to coordinate attacks and to pilot the Megazord. Being made for the Nintendo Wii U, the player with the Wii U Gamepad will have some extra touchscreen controls to guide the other players to victory. The graphics will be nearly realistic. The show features live actors and a likeness for the game would be appropriate. The controls will be simple combat controls found in beat'em up games. Players will be able to punch, kick, shoot, and block as they progress through the levels. The controls will change when the players enter the combined Megazord. Each player will have a specific part of the robot body to control. Coordination and team work are a must to control the Megazord.

Summary of Gameplay
-
To better explain the gameplay, this is how the players will progress through each level. At the beginning of each level, the players enter as teenagers with out any super powers or weapons. They will engage in melee combat with the enemy. With every defeated enemy the players receive power energy that goes into the morph meter. If the players are able to perform team combos the amount of power they receive will be multiplied. For example, if two players attack an enemy warrior consecutively, they will receive two times the normal power energy. If a third player comes into add to the combo, then the power received is multiplied by three. There will be some techniques for making this possible like launching an enemy in the air for another player to jump kick. Once the morph meter is filled they are allowed to morph into Power Rangers. In this form they will have weapons and their attacks will deal more damage. Enemies will fight slightly harder, but will not have more health.
After the teenagers have changed into Power Rangers, the morph meter will turn into a power meter. This will continue to fill and be used for another time in the level. At the end of the level, the players will fight the boss. The players will first fight the boss in human form (meaning not in the giant robot). After the boss is defeated it will grow and the Power Rangers will summon their robot animals. These robots will combine together to form the Megazord and then the players will fight against the boss one more time in a one on one battle. However, the Megazord will not be controlled by only one player, but all the players. Each player though will control a different part of the robots body such as legs and arms. One person for each leg and one for each arm. So if the players want to jump, the two players controlling the legs will need to input the jump command at the same time. There will be a little leeway for synchronizing these inputs so that making those simultaneous commands are easier. The fifth player will play as the commander from the Wii U Gamepad. The power meter that was being charged up, while the players were just Power Rangers, is now the fuel for the Megazord. The more power the players were able to gather, the more energy the Megazord has. Once the boss is defeated the players will have cleared the stage.

The Tablet Part
-
The player that uses the Wii U Gamepad will be the commander of the group of five. This player will play as one of the five Power Rangers and use the buttons and analog sticks to move his character. During the human size parts of the level, the Wii U Gamepad will show how much power each of the enemies are holding. Some of the enemy troops will have a surge of power and defeating those will greatly add to the morph/power meter. The player using the Gamepad will be able to touch the enemies and the corresponding enemy will be marked on the television for other players to identify.
During the Megazord portions, the player using the Wii U Gamepad will not use any of the robots limbs. His job is to manage the distribution of power. Attacks from the giant enemy will not harm the Megazord (and this may change). The power that was gathered is for distributing to the arms and legs. The Wii U Gamepad will show a diagram of the Megazord and a mini-meter next to each limb. The player with the Gamepad will tap on a virtual button near each mini-meter to refill them. This will extract power from the main power meter that the Rangers had gathered power for. The more full each mini meter is the more powerful attacks are. The limbs will consume power from the mini-meters over time. There is another screen that the commander can slide over to and view the boss with its health bar. Once the health bar has reached a critical point, the Power Rangers can deliver the finishing blow.

Winning and Losing
-
The players will win each stage when they have defeated the stage's boss. There will be a number of stages until the players approach the final boss and win the entire game. Losing occurs when each player loses all his/her energy and all the lives. The players will each have three lives per stage. These lives can be shared if there is one player that has fallen more than others. And each player will have their own health bar.
In the Megazord the remaining lives will be combined for how many chances the players get in the Megazord. The Megazords health is the power meter which is the combined power gained during the level. When that meter is depleted the players lose a life. When all lives are lost it's game over. The players win by depleting the enemy boss's health bar.

-
Graphic Style
-
The graphics will be near photo realistic. The Power Rangers show is a childrens' action show. Having the likeness of familiar faces from the TV show will be important for the fans to identify their favorite Power Ranger.
-
-
Audion and Music
-
Sound effects will be those of explosions, laser shots, punching, and kicking. Any morphing sounds will be used in the game to sound familiar to fans. Voices from the actors will be used for any dialog or cutscenes between levels.
The music will be original tunes from the TV show. There will also be some background music for each stage. The style of music will be hard rock. Only instrumentals for most of the background music.

Major Selling Points
-
Team Based Action – With the team work required to gain the upper hand over the enemies, players can enjoy a variety of actions to work as a team. The communication and coordination required to pilot the Megazord will add to the team work required.
-
Tablet Controls – Hopefully children won't be fighting over who gets to be the commander. The tablet controls aid the other players in gaining the upper hand.

PART 2
Here we were challenged to return to our TV series or movie series and make a more complete concept.
Characters:
Gosei – Guardian trained by Zordon to summon the Power Rangers. He assumes the form of a tiki head. He is the commander of the Power Rangers.
Troy Burrows – The Red Ranger and leader of the Power Rangers Megaforce. Troy is an experienced martial artist who had dreams of a war between Power Rangers and an unknown evil. Gosei made Troy the leader of the Power Rangers.
Noah Carver – The Blue Ranger with the mind of a genius. Noah is interested in science and his intellect is what sets him apart from the rest of his team. He is good friends with Jake.
Jake Holling – The fearless Black Ranger who laughs in the face of all danger. Jake loves being a Power Ranger and does not fear battle. He has a crush on Gia and wishes for her to fall for him.
Gia Moran – The beautiful Yellow Ranger. She is also a powerful martial artist. She is good friends with Emma.
Emma Goodall – The caring Pink Ranger who fights to protect her planet. Emma cares deeply for planet earth and all life that lives on it.
Admiral Malkor – The leader of the evil Warstar aliens. Apparently he is lazy.
Creepox – One of Admiral Malkor's greatest generals. He wants to destroy Earth and is obsessed with defeating the Red Ranger.
Vrak – Even though he works under Malkor, he is a prince and wishes to rule the Earth instead of destroy it.
Progressing Metrics:
-
The Morph/Power Meter – The player will have a meter at the top of the tablet that will fill up when enemies are defeated. Performing combo attacks as a team will multiply the amount of power the Rangers will receive towards the meter. The players will be the human characters at the beginning of the level. Once the meter is filled, the players will transform into Power Rangers. After that the players will fill the meter to store energy for the Megazord. The Megazord will fight the boss at the end of the stage. This meter will only be on the tablet screen, but if the players don't want to use the tablet the morph/power meter will be at the bottom of the game screen.
-
The appearance of the players – This is more about how well the players are doing. If the players is fighting well and scoring great amounts of power, then the players will morph into Power Rangers sooner. That way the player can earn power for the Megazord and will have more of a chance to be successful in the final battle. The less power the player is able to gain, the less powerful they will be at the end.
-
The Life of the Level Boss – The only other metric for the player within one level. This will be in the form of meter. Like the morph/power meter, this meter will be on the tablet or on the TV screen. This all depends if the tablet is being utilized or not. When the boss's life approaches the end of the meter the Megazord is able to perform the final attack and defeat the level's boss.
Interface:
The game will be a beat em' up action game. Even though there will be up to five players playing this game at once, there will be no split screen. The further away enemies and players are away from each other the further out the camera will be. The closer Rangers and enemies are the more zoomed in the camera will be. There will be five spots for each ranger at the top that will display their picture and a life meter

During this mode of the game the tablet screen will display the same thing as on the TV but with a blue filter with a grid. The power values will display above the enemy warriors.

During the Megazord sections, only the Megazord or the enemy boss will be displayed on screen. Life meters will only appear if the game is being played with no tablet. The Megazord and the boss will have their whole frame showing. On the tablet screen the player will see a silhouette of the Megazord. By each arm and leg will be a mini-meter and a virtual button. These buttons will be used to allocate power from the Power meter at the top of the tablet screen to the power mini-meters for each limb.

This is the same power meter as the morph/power meter. There will be an arrow at the top right of the touchscreen for the player to tap to switch between a view of the boss and the power allocation screen.
Controls:
The controls will have certain actions mapped out to the action and shoulder buttons. These buttons can be changed in the options menu from the title screen. While controlling the human characters, whether in Power Ranger suits or not, the players will have an attack button where melee attacks will be given. Each Rangers' strikes will be unique to that Ranger. There will be different melee attacks if the player presses a certain direction with the melee button as well as jumping attacks from just pressing the melee button alone. The player will be able to jump to vault over enemies or attack enemies at a higher plane. Each Ranger is armed with a shooting weapon and will have one button to shoot. Each Ranger also has the ability to guard attacks. While most of the actions will be mapped to the face buttons, the guard will be given to a shoulder button. That is unless the player changes his button mapping.
In the Megazord, each player will control a limb, except for the leader who will control the tablet. Each foot will use an analog stick and shoulder button for walking, kicking and jumping. Taking a step will require the player to move the analog stick forward. The kick will require a button press with the the analog stick. To jump, both shoulder buttons need to be pressed. Because two players will be controlling the two legs, each player needs to perform the same action in near unison for the action to execute successfully.
The arms will be controlled with the analog sticks and shoulder buttons just like the legs. Punching will be executed in a similar fashion as kicking. Arm players can also grab by pressing forward on both analog sticks and pressing down two shoulder buttons.
The tablet controls will change depending on the mode. In human and ranger mode, the player using the tablet will tap on the enemies. This will mark the players and a special reticle will appear on the TV on the corresponding enemy. During the Megazord sections the player will allocate power to the limbs by tapping on the virtual buttons next to each limb. Also the player can touch the arrow at the top right of the screen to switch between a view of the enemy and the power allocation screen.
Community Feature:
Now I know that multiplayer is too obvious, but this is a game made for multiplayer. It is intended for players to play together on the couch in the living room. Especially since team work gives rewards. However, the best thing to build the community, is for the players to use the Miiverse and share the cool things they were able to do in the game. Players will be able to take snapshots to share with others. For example, players can show the awesome attacks they may have executed on the enemies.
