Mirrored

This project I was brought on as a Designer/Artist/Animator. I have very little animation experience but because of my art background I decided to give it a go.  I was also given the opportunity to design standard enemies.

 

This game is a story about a young girl named Lily.  She has to cope with the loss of her birth parents.  Through her strugles she steps into a mirrored world which is a world like hers, but twisted and distorted.  

Enemies

Here are just some of the enemies that I came up with for the game.  I tried my best to come up with enemies that were each unique in their own way.  I also had some rules to follow, as the programmer had already programmed some basic mechanics for enemies to follow.  There would be enemies in both worlds.  The enemies from the real world would have to only have melee attacks, and the enemies from the mirrored world would have to have projectile attacks.  All enemies would have a patrol speed and a way to detect the player so that they can enter attack mode.

Pig

Size:

  • Half the height of Lily.

  • Twice the width of Lily sideways.

  • Up and Down is same width of Lily.

 

Health:

  • Three hits.

 

Movement:

  • Patrol:

  • Walks around freely.

    • 1/3 the speed of Lily's walking.

  • Stops for about 3 seconds after 2 seconds of walking.

  • Detection (sight cone):

    • Attacks.

Attack:

  • Burrow

    • Will burrow half of its body in the earth and move towards Lily.

    • Cannot attack the pig while it's under the earth.

    • Under the earth it moves at the same speed as Lily.

    • Can harm Lily under the earth if Lily is hit by it.

    • The Pig will always follow Lily.

    • This attack will last three seconds.

    • The pig will jump out and land on the ground to catch its breath

      • for about two seconds.

 

Animations

Snake Shot

I jumped on this project in the middle of a class asking for work to do.  In an effort to quickly give me some work, while the leaders working on things themselves, they tasked me with making an animation for a snake projectile.  A snake that was to be shot at the player from a larger snake.  What I was given was this.

So what I did was simple.  Took the snake and made it longer, added the details, and just flipped the image to show it wiggling. I told the team to set the speed at about half a second for each frame.

Wolf

 

Size:

  • ½ Lily's height

  • 2 times Lily's length when standing sideways

    • Same width standing forwards and backwards

 

Health:

  • 3 hits

 

Movement:

  • Patrol:

    • Moves in a slow speed.

    • Moves around freely

    • Walks around for about 4 seconds and stops to look around for about 1.5

  • Detect Lily (sight cone):

    • Stands still and snarls at Lily for about a second

    • Then slowly creeps toward Lily until a certain distance is reached.

 

Attack:

  • When certain distance is reached during creeping motion, the wolf will jump out at Lily.

    • Horizontal in nature.

    • Won't jump up into the air.

  • This attack can be dodged as the attack only goes along a strait path.

Flying Frog

Size:

  • Half Lily's height

  • Lily's width

 

Health:

  • 2 hits.

 

Movement:

  • Patrol:

  • Flies at twice the speed of Lily.

  • Flies around freely.

 

  • Detection (sight cone):

  • Just before attack, will hover in one spot.

 

Attacks:

  • Tongue Shot

    • Shoots its tongue out about four lengths of its body.

    • If Lily is within reach and deflects the tongue attack with her mirror, then the deflection hurts the frog.

Laser Eyes Squirrel

Size:

  • 1/3 the size of Lily's height.

  • ½ as wide.

 

Health:

  • 3 hits.

 

Movement:

  • Patrol:

  • Moves around freely on the ground.

  • Detection (radius):

  • When Lily gets within a certain distance, the creature jumps a couple paces back.

 

Attack:

  • After it jumps back, it shoots a laser from its eyes towards Lily's direction.

  • The laser starts at a short distance and then goes further and further out.

  • The squirrel will continue to shoot until the laser is deflected back, or three seconds have passed.

  • The squirrel will turn to face Lily while shooting the Laser.

    • Like the laser shooting statues in Legend of Zelda: ALTTP.
