TIM BENITEZ
HELLO I'M TIM
I LOVE CREATING GAMES
Biblioteca Wars
In this assignment, I was challenged to come up with a unique weapon set, or system, for a first person shooter. Weapons that were different from the regular every day weapons we see in most first person shooters.
La Biblioteca Wars
This game is played in giant libraries around Mexico. Aliens have attacked the world and only enter the world through portals in las bibliotecas (the libraries). The game will be a traditional first person shooter with books and other objects found in the library to use as weapons.
Weapons
The weapons will be books and other objects that are found in a library, such as pencils, pens, water bottles, etc. Each of these books, and other objects, are going to be on shelves, tables, and the floor. The story goes that these weapons are hidden to the naked eye and only with special glasses can people see these special weapons. Each player will automatically have these glasses equipped. That's why you see a lot of librarians wearing glasses, not because they are near or far sighted, but because they need to defend their land. They also love their bilbiotecas. The player will be able to identify the books with a glowing outline around them so that they are not pressing the pickup button on every book on the shelves. Each type of book will have different firing capabilities and will be quickly identified by a different color outline for each type. Just so you know, books are not always put back where they belong so a romance paperback may be in the biographies.
Weapons List
-
-
-
Libros (Books) – These are the primary firearms of the game that fire off letters as its ammunition. Just need to think about the letter to fire it or a word for a burst. It all gets real when someone gets F'd in the face. You hold these spine up. Each book can be reloaded with an ink cartridge.
-
-
-9mm paperbacks – or any small hand gun equivalent. Variations are standard fiction, mystery, sci-fi, and romance
-Hardback assaulters – those things don't just hurt to get shot from, but also to get beat by. Variations of these are; same as paperbacks, biographies, history nonfiction, art nonfiction, other nonfiction.
-Large type shotgun – This one will shoot you in spreading paragraphs
-Encyclopedia and dictionary launchers – Shoots massive explosive words and definitions.
-
Lápiz Shapener (Pencil Sharpener Snipers) -Oh they are sharp alright. Hold these up and they shoot piercing sharp pencils down the hall at great distances.
-
Lápiz Shapener Granada (Pencil Sharpener Grenades) – These are the none mechanical sharpeners that hold the pencil shavings in them. Explode one of these and you'll have a lot of little shavings cutting los banditos up to death.
-
Matador de la Botella de Agua (Water bottle killers) –Throw these and a liquid anaconda will come out and squeeze the life out of the banditos.
-
Raton de la Computador de Lo Infierno (Computer Mice from Hell) – Right click then left click to activate then throw. Explodes with a million clicking noises to drive one loco.
-
Pluma (Pens) – Your primary melee weapon. The pen is mightier than the sword.
-
CD-ROM Minas (CD-ROM mines) – That's pretty self explanatory.
Improvements
The only upgrade there is for the gun libros is to attach a different marcador (book marker) which happens to be the equivalent to a rifle scope. These are attached with cinta (tape) by the way. Just look over these marcadors and you'll see further away. The larger the marcador the greater the magnification. How many letter rounds in the book depends on how big and what type of book it is. There will be various types of libros like the various types of real life firearms such as a romance paperback will have more power than a sci-fi paperback or a mystery hardback will have more range than a thriller hardback. Each of these variations will have their own specific range, rate of fire, etc. There will be no improvements on granadas, but there will be multiple types of pencil sharpener granadas. Each will be marked with a colored ring to show what it is. There will be various types of plumas, each with different attacking strengths. For example, a traditional ink pen will give more damage than a ball point pen.
Example 1 – Standard Fiction Hardback Assaulter
Standard fiction hardback assaulter is like a standard assault weapon like the M16 assault rifle is the standard weapon for troops in the USA. Looks like a standard book but when grabbed at the bottom corner of the book, not at the spine, the book becomes a gun. The top of the gun points toward the enemy. The spine faces up and when you rub the spine, with your hand moving toward you, the book gun activates. After activated the pages inside will coil out to create a muzzle to point at your opponent. You are then able to attack your target with letters and even words for a rapid fire burst. Standard fiction comes in a wide variety of covers for beauty. Los Libros will be left on shelves, tables, and maybe even the floor because no one picks up after themselves in las bibliotecas. Just pick up the book and activate it. This book, and all books, can be reloaded by sliding an ink cartridge underneath it in any direction.
Example 2 – Matador de la Botella de Agua
This is probably the most unique weapon here and the real reason you don't want to drink the tap water in Mexico. You just thought it was parasites in these bottles, well think again. Shake the bottle and throw it at your enemy. These water bottles release a giant water anaconda that increases in size after it leaves the bottle. After these anacondas come out, they will chase after the target until they are choked out to death. These look like your standard water bottles just repackaged with tap water by a crazy man on the corner trying to make a quick buck. It also has gross little floaties inside. The anaconda looks like a stream of water in the form of an anaconda and has a mouth at the end that opens up to scare people. The very same anaconda is strong enough to pop the cap off the water bottle itself. The anaconda can be defeated before it reaches the enemy by shooting it with enough letters.
